Looks Like Microsoft Acccounting is in full swing. Microsoft are teasing us with a new version of Microsoft Office accounting which includes a fully paid-up 12 month licence of payroll. What bonus does this give you over the current version is available? well none really except payroll would cost you 20 quid more if you were to buy it separately.  I’m not sure how much of a difference £20 will make to an enterprise customer, but hopefully we will find out soon.  There is no current fixed date for release on the website, however it is currently available at Amazon for £229, a further 20 quid off.  (what’s the deal with a 20 quids everywhere?) I wonder if someone at Microsoft, wants to start updating their website? or are they hoping to buy someone at Yahoo to do it for them? Happy accounting!

Looks like Microsoft people have been very busy this week, not only have they been busy packing software boxes into store shelves, seems they have been busy polishing up the release of service Pack 1 Accounting and accounting express.  What’s even more amazing is that they are releasing the UK update AT THE SAME TIME.

Microsoft seem to have been so busy, but they forgot to tell anyone about it!  There doesn’t seem to be any mention on the accounting UK website nor on the newsgroups.

For those of you looking to download it now, you can get it from Microsoft update otherwise here are the links:

Microsoft office accounting 2008 service Pack 1((KB949426)

Details of what is being updated should be appearing here ( currently not available).

We are currently installing over here, and will follow with a more in-depth review of what’s changed!  The knowledge base seems to indicate that there has been an update on data migration, so holding thumbs for some great features that our American cousins currently enjoy like quickbooks / CSV import.

Thanks to our friends down under ITWIRE (article here) for letting us know.

Office accounting going retail

Good news, it seems that the programme has just been released to retail channels, so for those of you reading this who do not have access to the Internet, your chance to get a copy is nigh.

Hopefully a wider distribution and more boxes on shelves will mean that more people will know about it as a serious option to the other accounting programs.

For more detailed info, see Accountancy Ages glowing announcement here.

All you extra special fans of the program, who have been waiting in lines outside PC World, please post pictures!

Now that I have the first post out of the way, and feeling a lot more relaxed, I am ready to begin… Here goes!

Aims

  1. To be a central place for impartial news regarding Microsoft office accounting 2008, from all sources.
  2. To be an authoritative place for” How-To’s”  to supplement MS accounting 2008 help section(maybe videos too?)
  3. To  allow people to share feedback, good and bad regarding the program
  4. To provide some detailed comparison to other popular accounting programs such as quickbooks, Sage and  MYOB  regarding  features, speed, usability, accuracy, ease-of-use.
  5. To have a dialogue with other users, and developers of Microsoft office accounting.
  6. Other suggestions?

When working on most projects, we usually start by brainstorming about an idea for 10 minutes which usually gives a great starting point.  If you’re reading this and would like to participate, please feel free to share your idea or opinion in the comments section below.

Placeholder.

I’m sure that many of you are not new to the subject of blogs, and realize that most blogs startout as one thing, go through some changes and end up as something quite different.

Bearing in mind that this is my first post on this blog, I feel severely under qualified to even say what it is about, hence I have left is first post open as a placeholder. Perhaps in a few weeks, a few months, I will be in a better place to give a good introduction.

In the next post I plan on brainstorming some ideas, and some rules on how can suitably cover the subject matter of Microsoft office accounting from a UK perspective, plus some of the rules I will use to ensure that I don’t have the “ hi all, sorry I didn’t post in so many months” post.
